A total of 41 students from four African countries are undergoing a week-long virtual orientation exercise organised by the Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL).

The breakdown of the figure, according to centre director, Prof. Grace Jokthan, shows eleven females and thirty male students from The Gambia, Ghana, Cameron and Uganda participated at the orientation exercise.

The exercise was for ACETEL postgraduate courses students in Management Information System (MIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Security (CS) at both MSc and PhD levels.

Prof. Jokthan added that the programme aims to familiarise and sufficiently inform the students with what learning in ACETEL and ODL entails and how to go about their academic expedition.

In a remark, the Vice-Chancellor, NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, charged the students to take their studies seriously.

He added that NOUN as a leading and reputable organisation in Africa, especially the business of open and distance learning, has over 20 years of quality delivery of instructional materials at the tertiary level.

Prof. Peters enjoined the students to be good ambassadors of their country by exhibiting good character while learning and encouraged them to fully participate in all the training both academic and hands-on skill to fully tap the gains of their programme.

The ongoing orientation has an instructional design expert, Prof. Juliet Inegbedion, who took the students on "Learning in an ODL institution."

Other presenters included, Dr. Adewale Adesina, coordinator short courses ACETEL, represented by Mr. David Miracle, who took the students on "Student's Learning Environment," while Dr. Johnson Opateye presented on "Student's Results Verification, Project Supervision and Internship."

The trio of Dr. Gregory Onwodi, Vivian Nwaocha and Juliana Ndunagu took turns to brief students on ACETEL’s three courses, while the “Role of ACETEL Administrative Unit” was taken by Udochukwu Chidi Nwankwo and the “Academic Calendar, Examination and Assessment” by Prof. Christine Oflue.
