The outgoing director, Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Nebath Tanglang, has expressed profound gratitude to the management of the institution for giving him the ample opportunity to serve in different capacities.

Prof. Tanglang said this while handing over to the new DAP's  director, Prof. Godwin I. Akper at the University headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.

He said : "I have served the University in different capacities as  director of Study Centres, director of Learner Support Services, director of Academic Planning and DVC Administration among others.

"I have also worked as a director, African Council for Distance Education, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (ACDE-QAAA). Presently, I am the Focal Person for African Council for Distance Education. So all these exposures have prepared me to work anywhere in this world especially when it comes to distance learning."

Tanglang said he has gained wealth of experience serving in NOUN, saying he would leverage on it on his sabbatical in another University.

While commending his staff for being a pillar of support towards his landmark achievements, Tanglang said the Directorate under his watch achieved a lot ranging from accreditation of courses, academic brief, development of strategic plan for the University, sensitization workshop for quality assurance, visiting study centres for improvement, among others.

"I have done my best, the best of my ability that God has given me to work for the University in this Directorate and posterity is the one that will judge us for what we have done here. I pray that the incoming director will do something more than what I've done here. I'm always available for clarity on issues whenever the need arises," he said.

The outgoing director also implored staff the University community  to take every responsibility given /assigned to them willingly, adding that it is profitable.

"Embrace every task/ responsibility assigned to you, take it to heart, you are not doing it to impress anyone, and rather you are gaining experience and preparing yourself ahead.

Responding, the newly appointed director of DAP, Prof. Godwin I. Akper thanked his predecessor for piloting the affairs of the Directorate and wished him well in his new assignment.

Professor Tanglang, who has been in the service of NOUN for over a decade, is currently on sabbatical at the Department of Physical and Health Education, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
