Council chairman vows to improve staff welfare, charges graduates for maximum productivity

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Emeritus Professor Peter A. Okebukola has assured members of staff that the university will not relent in its efforts towards improving staff welfare.

Prof. Okebukola, who stated this while delivering his welcome address during the 11th Convocation Ceremony held on March 26, 2022 at the university's headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, also enjoined the graduates to be productive in their future endeavours.

"I would like to assure all staff that Council will not relent in its efforts to improve on issues of welfare. We will continue to do our best for you within limits of prevailing economic climate.

"We must all continue to join hands to support government in whatever way we can so that our nation continues in an upward trajectory of growth and development.

"The greatness of our country is in our hands. Together, we will  make Nigeria great if we all accept to contribute our individual quota," Okebukola stated.

While congratulating the VC, Prof. Olufemi Peters, his management team and staff for their unwavering efforts towards taking NOUN to greater heights, the Council Chair said that the VC, who has just clocked one year in office, has achieved a lot in both academic and staff welfare adding that he is building heavily on his predecessors.

"I encourage you to continue discharging your duties diligently as it can only get better," Okebukola said.

Besides, he congratulated the graduating students on the successful completion of their studies, stressing that "You have been well prepared in learning and character,  so go out and contribute your quota to the development of our society and the world in general.

"Be good ambassadors of NOUN and continue to set the pace in all your endeavours. 

Speaking further, Prof. Okebukola who vowed to tackle some challenges facing the university, added that On behalf of Council, and all members of NOUN community,  I reiterate our pledge to being one of the best open universities in the world by 2030 in terms of enrolment, quality of graduates  and production of such high-level human resources that will significantly bolster the global socio-economic standing of Nigeria."

Going down memory lane, Okebukola said that the present Council came on board on 15th July, 2021, adding that to enhance efficiency in online facilitation and other online deliverables, the university has had some training programmes.

Some of these trainings according, to him include: Theory practice and future development in accreditation in higher education; practical course for higher education programme and institutional accreditors; training course on theory, practice and future of academic planning in university education among others.

Meanwhile, the Council Chair appreciated all the former VCs of NOUN and all the NOUN's stakeholders for their unalloyed contributions towards the growth and the development of the University.
