Laboratory practical in Enugu

The Faculty of Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has, on Tuesday 12 October, 2021, commenced the 2021 _2 laboratory practical exercise for the South-east geopolitical region at Enugu Study Centre.

The exercise, which is scheduled to last for 2 weeks at the centre, gathered students from Enugu, Abakaliki and Awka Study Centres.

According to the Director of Research Administration, Prof. Joseph Omada, the science practical is mandatory for all students undertaking science courses without which graduation will be elusive.

Omada explained that the exercise was designed to expose students on the practical knowledge of their courses, as it avails the lecturers opportunity to interact with students physically as well as imparting them academically.

While acknowledging that regional arrangement gives room for convenient and full participation, Omada also added that it allows students to demonstrate a hands-on practical know-how, with the emphasis on "do it by yourself” syndrome.

He listed the courses students were to undertake as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, among others.

On the part of students, he described their happiness and noted that the more the students do it by themselves the more they will have full grasp of it.

NOUN News correspondent also gathered that at the expiration of the 2 weeks, the team will move to Owerri for Umudike and Owerri Study Centres’ students participation.

Other members of the team were the Head of Department, Biological Science, Dr. Maureen Chukwu, the Head of Department, Chemistry, Dr. Henrietta Kelle and Dr. Efiong Ibanga of Physics Department.

The embedded administrative support staff in the team are the Higher Executive Officer, Mrs. Ndubuisi Juliana and the Assistant Executive Officer, Nkiru Ibe.
