Jos Study Centre receives NUC accreditation team

The Jos Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has received the National Universities Commission (NUC), accreditation team.

The management of the centre, who was fully prepared to host the excise, had already made all necessary arrangements for a seamless excise.

The Centre Director Dr. Philip S. Tachin, the Dean Faculty of Education, Prof. Bamikola O. Ogunleye, the Head of the department, Dr. Marcellinus Anaekwe and other academic staff from the department of Science Education welcomed them to the centre.

The exercise centered on some programmes in the faculty of education, which included Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Physics.

The NUC team was conducted round the facilities at the centre before they settled down for the business of the day, as various files were made available for their scrutiny, with the support of academic staff of the faculty with the support of some administrative staff at the centre.   

In a related development, the team proceeded to the National Veterinary Research Institution (NVRI), Vom, to tour the various laboratories being used by NOUN students for their practicals.

At the NVRI, the team were received by the provost Dr. Jude Obi Okpara and Deputy Provost Dr. Jamil Yerima, and were later taken round the Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Computer laboratories.

Even though the team observed that a mathematics laboratory was not available for students of B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics, provision were later made for the purpose of carrying out the mathematics practical.

The entourage from NUC at the end has a successful outing as all they requested for were provided as the excise was conducted successfully.
