Peters presents certificates to 192 graduates of CHRD, others

The National Open University of Nigeria's Centre for Human Resource Development (NOUN-CHRD), the Centre for Human Resource Development and Empowerment Initiative (CHRDEI), Kaduna, Root Global Services and De-Gloxy Skills Acquisition Club, have graduated 192 students who have undergone training in various vocational skills

The graduation ceremony, which took place at the Kaduna Study Centre Auditorium, conferred 187 graduates of the CHDREI, Root Global Services and Skill Acquisition Club, while the other five underwent training in various trades. 

NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, who conferred the certificates to the graduating students, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Isaac Sammani Rabo Bustwat. 

Addressing the students,, the Vice-Chancellor said the 2021-2022 graduation of trainees from the above-mentioned non state actors in collaboration with the CHRD, was coming at a time that most Nigerians were clamouring for transformation in to address the challenges of the 21st Century. 

This graduation ceremony is indeed one of the ways to mitigate this 21st Century challenges and fashion out a way forward for our dear country,said Peters. 

He showed his appreciation as 187 trainees from CHRDEI were graduated this year, out of which 161 were were trained in ICT, 11 in tailoring, 10 in carpentry, four in joinery and one in embroidery.

He added that it's interesting, for the first time, among the graduates were five trainees in Catering and Hotel Management from the Root Global Service & the Glory Skill Acquisition Club.” 

  According to the VC, this is a good development that will further strengthen the goal of the NOUN as the morale institutions to support government efforts towards addressing the lingering unemployment in Nigeria. 

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, CHRD, stated that at the 2021-2022 graduation ceremony under leadership of the VC, Professor Olufemi Peters, came as a morale booster to the centre

This owing to his passionate quest in the promotion of skills acquisition and training of artisans through the support for linkages, partnership and collaboration in organisations towards making the NOUN a household name in Nigeria,” he said

He explained that CHRD was established to provide formal and non formal education that uphold quality and cos-effective training designed to increase individual and organisational productivity, create opportunities that enhance knowledge and develop skills that build capacity for development.

Umar added that CHRD has the vision of being the leading human resource development and skills acquisition centre through an all inclusive quality-assured training towards excellence and cost-effective knowledge for societal advancement. 

The director appreciated the founders of the two centres for their foresight on youth development and empowerment and also for the value addition to the country. 

The founder and initiator of CHRDEI, Hon. Dr. Muhammad Ali, stated that the programme has presented an opportunity to renew contacts, discuss problems of mutual interest such as women and youth empowerment skills development, technical education and training. 

He expressed that his centre in collaboration with CHRD are willing to go into partnership with the the National Board for Technical Education to help push forward its efforts at providing the needed leadership to champion the course of drawing up a National Operational Manual for the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework.

Ali maintained that entrepreneurship is a source of job creation, empowerment and economic independence all over the world. 

On his part, the chairman of the occasion, who is the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education, Professor Idris Bugaji, represented by the Director, Human Resource of the Board, Alhaji Lawal Yahaya Hafiz, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative effort of these reputable centres.

He added that he had since extended his gesture of skills acquisition and manpower development training, which he extended to old Panteka Market Association by training numerous assessors to support the quest of ensuring proper grading of trainees in skills acquisition.

Highlights of the event was the presentations of certificates to the graduates by the Vice-Chancellor as well as inspection of some practical works displayed by the graduates of carpentry.
