Students of the Department of Environmental Health Science (EHS), Faculty of Health Sciences of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have undergone science laboratory practical sessions at the university’s Lagos office.

The two sessions on General Microbiology and Biochemistry, preceded by a 3-day training, were coordinated by the Head of the Department, Dr. Oluremi Saliu and Mr. Eya Chukwunons.

According to Saliu, "The two practicals are the essential parts of the main courses, and the purpose is for students to be exposed to the practical side of those courses."

She added that the exercise was organised to enhance the students' understanding of the theoretical aspect of the courses and to stir in them the zeal for research work.

The HOD said the students were able to handle the microscope to understand various parts of the machine, and viewed as well as examined micro-organisms during each session.

The exercise, she explained, will also be conducted at other study centres across the nation.

She thanked and recognised the efforts of the management and the faculty for the success of the exercise.
