FCT Fire Service storms NOUN


The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service has taken its campaign on fire safety to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The Principal Fire Officer II, Mr  Bassey Enyieko, who led a four-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, stressed the need for in-house training on fire safety and evacuation drills for NOUN technical staff and securities.

“Kindly improve on fire safety certifications and organise in-house training on fire safety and evacuation drills for technical staff and securities," he said.

Eyisi harps on communicative competence in English


A former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Academics, and Director, Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Joy Eyisi said migrants should hone their communicative competence in English so as to avoid global embarrassment.

"To ameliorate the challenges of migration, so that we do not encounter frustrations and humiliations,  we need to develop our communicative competence in English, and using the native speakers' variety of the language as a standard would save you from global embarrassment," Prof. Eyisi said.

NOUN : Ofulue, Bandele, Marafa to assume new office


The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof Olufemi Peters, has approved certain changes in the leadership of some directorates in the institution.

This was contained in a memo dated November 3rd, 2021 and signed by the Director, Human Resources, Mr John J. Ubaji, on behalf of the Registrar.

The changes will see Prof. Christine Ofulue of the Faculty of Arts assuming office as the new Director, Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL), with effect from 2nd November, 2021.

Entrepreneurship education key to graduate employability – VC


The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has said that developing and possessing entrepreneurial skills is a way to reduce unemployment amongst graduates of higher institutions in the country.

He said students with entrepreneurial education are better suited for flexibility and adaptability in the labour market, especially with the uncertainty and dynamic changes within the economic environment.

NOUN's centre director bags award


The Director of Makurdi Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Fidel Onefeju Okopi, has been bestowed with a distinguished award.

The award was conferred on him by the Ahmadu Bello Advocacy for Good governance and leadership centre, Abuja,on Thursday 28th October 2021 in Makurdi, the Benue State capital for his meritorious  service to humanity, peace advocacy, job creation and upliftment of educational standard in Benue Dtate and Nigeria at large.
