Two separate teams of the National Universities Commission (NUC) have visited the Lagos Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for the accreditation of B. A French as well as B.Sc Mass Communication on Thursday, November 16, and Monday, November 20, 2023, respectively.

The team for the French programme was led by Prof. Jiff Mokobia of the University of Delta State (DELSU), and was accompanied by Prof. Mobolanle E. Sotunsa, Babcock University; Prof. Rita O. Mebilaghm also from DELSU, and Mrs. Stella Williams, who was the NUC representative.

The NOUN contingent on ground were, among others, Prof. Doris Obieje of the French Unit, Dr. Lucy Jummoni Jubrin, Head of Unit, French, and Mrs. Joyce Gana Shelika from the DAP.

Lagos centre director, Associate Prof. Alero Akujobi, who welcomed them to the centre, expressed gratitude to the guests and introduced the centre's senior staff, adding that the centre had made necessary arrangements for the exercise.

Prof. Mokobia, while briefing the centre, stated that B.A French had started in 2019 and presently has seven students, which indicates that this is the first time an accreditation is being carried out for the programme.

He said the exercise should be taken seriously because it will determine the success of the programme, advising the centre to give its best of what they have to the success of the exercise.

Shortly after the briefing, the centre director and the HOD French led the team to the workstation and visited the ICT office where questions were raised on how to attend to students.

The team also engaged in facility inspection, such as the examination hall, counselling unit, virtual and main library, Information Advice & Guidance (IA&G), students' convenience, and halls for seminars.

Mokobia, at the end of the exercise, expressed his satisfaction and assured that the programme would get full accreditation due to the advanced preparation of the centre, even as urged the university and the centre, in particular, to put in more efforts toward an increased enrollment.

Kabir, ODL expert; Mr. Muhammed Idris, NUC representatives and Mrs. Okeke Florence from the NOUN’s Directorate of Academic Planning.

The director of the centre, Associate Prof. Alero Akujobi briefly explained their preparedness for the exercise as the team pointed out the areas of inspections.

The exercise was conducted around the facilities before the team headed to the NOUN Radio, where they inspected the Media Library, Technical Room, Production Room, and the main studio.

All the questions asked were successfully answered in each section before they settled down to scrutinise files, books and records with the support of the Mass Communication HOD, desk officers and the student's counsellor at the centre.
