In a bid towards increasing students population, the Director, Enugu Study Centre, Prof. Alexander Uche Onyia and some senior staff of the centre have started an aggressive advocacy campaigns to religious centres in the state.
To this, the centre offered its own advocacy preachings when it visited the Living Faith Church, Independence Layout as well as the Matre-Dei Catholic Church, Trans-Ekulu, all in Enugu State.
According to Onyia, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), as an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution, has the mandate of bringing higher education closer to the grass-roots of the Nigerian people, stressing its associated benefits of flexibility, affordability and cost - effectiveness, among others.
Onyia, while explaining that NOUN is providing opportunities for people who could not have been able to get university education, stated that the institution is free from the cobwebs prevalent in the conventional universities in terms of quota system, incessant strikes and capacity limit.
The Technology and Vocational Education professor enjoined members of the Living Faith to use the golden opportunity NOUN offers to enroll so as to upgrade themselves educationally.
The Principal Network Administrator at the centre, Mrs. Ezeanya Christiana Uchenna, was given the privilege to explain the operations, admission processes and requirements of securing admission into the institution, even as large members came forward for enquires on grey areas.
The Living Faith Pastor, Adeniyi Alabi Tony, in his response, said NOUN is actually bridging the gap in education and giving opportunities to those who desire to upgrade their carriers educationally.
He pledged his commitment towards encouraging members of his church to consider the possibility of enrolling into NOUN.
At the Matre -Dei Catholic Church, the centre’s Principal Counselor, Mr. Udoh Ndaeyo Okobo, explained the brief history of the institution and its activities with respect to admission criteria and processes, among others.
Responding, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Rev. Fri. Colonel (Rtd), Anthony Ozoani, expressed his excitement about the visit and promised to use his good office to attract members to the institution.
At the end of the two meetings, NOUN souvenirs were presented to the hosts.
