The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana and the Coordinator, North-Central Marking Zone, Prof. Gideon Omachonu have urged markers, subject officers and checkers to work together for the interest of the university.
Omachonu dropped the call while briefing markers, subject officers and checkers during the commencement of the 2024_2 conference marking exercise, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
While explaining the importance of the marking process, he stated that “if you remove the examination process from the system you will likely not get anything substantial as the sanity rests completely on examination.”
He urged them to be thorough in the marking and grading procedures to ensure fairness, transparency, and accuracy in evaluating all scripts.
"What is constant is your integrity, no matter where you go to," he said.
Omachonu appealed to them to imbibe the saying that "what is worth doing at all is worth doing well" and should consider themselves as partners in progress, by working together for the survival and growth of the system.
He further advised them to ensure the safety of the scripts or instruments given to them, while the materials should not be mutilated or carelessly handled, as the scripts represent people’s future.
On his part, Prof. Mafiana, who was an observer at the event, called on them to make sure that they do a good job and avoid any issue that may warrant a remarking.
He said the reason for the increase in the current time for submission of marked scripts was to avert rush in the marking processes.
"Now you have an opportunity to show that you can get jobs done, what is required of us is to be diligent in our work," Mafiana said.
The DVC appealed to the subject officers and checkers to ensure that they spend time to properly vent the scripts that would be given to the markers, as there is no marking by proxy.
