The Chief Security Officer (CSO)of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Wing Commander Umar Mohammed (Rtd) has reiterated that the university's zero tolerance to exams malpractice and misconduct cannot be compromised.

He stared this on Thursday, May 22, 2025 while interacting with the NOUN News correspondent at the Enugu Study Centre, Enugu State, after he successfully concluded his series of exams monitoring at Owerri, Nsu, Umuahia and Enugu Study Centres in the South-east region.

The CSO was led on a guided facility tour by the Centre Director, Prof. Charity Akuadi Okonkwo, accompanied by some senior staff of the centre before moving to the exam hall for the monitoring exercise

The visit, Mohammed said, was to monitor the administration and conduct of the ongoing 2025-1 Pen-on-Paper (PoP) exams at the centres and to advise the security personnel on the need to be vigilant and diligent in the discharge of their duties.

The CSO added that NOUN's credibility and high standards of examination process cannot be watered down.

While describing the sitting arrangements to be fantastic and orderly, Mohammed also commended students for their comportment and independently taking their exams at the centres.

He hailed the Centre Directors for doing their best to ensure a hitch-free exercise, particularly as they ensured that students were well-seated before the printing of examination question papers.

Speaking about the security personnel at the visited centres, Mohammed charged them to be watchful and to give respect to the Centre Directors as all problems must be reported to them accordingly.

The CSO emphasised the need for them as well as the staff to wear their identity cards for security reason.

Mohammed expressed the decision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, to increase the numbers of security personnel at centres as well as his determination to provide new brand uniform for them.
