The Faculty of Education, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has honoured Prof. Chiedu Felix Mafiana following his return as Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic) for another two years.
Prof. Mafiana was celebrated by the faculty during a congratulatory visit to his office in Abuja on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The visit reaffirmed the faculty’s support for his leadership and expressed confidence in his continued contribution to the university.
During the visit, the dean of the faculty, Professor Bamikole Ogunleye, described Prof. Mafiana’s return as a major gain for the institution, praising his track record and the impact of his previous tenure.
He assured the DVC that the Faculty remains committed to partnering with the university's leadership to sustain high academic standards.
A commemorative gift was presented to the DVC as a symbol of honour and solidarity.
In his response, Professor Mafiana expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted key academic concerns such as the need for well-structured marking guides to ensure transparency in students’ results.
He also noted that cases of lecturer misconduct must be addressed, expressing confidence in the faculty’s capacity, being one of the oldest and academically strong, to uphold discipline and lead by example.
The delegation for the visit included several departmental heads: Professor Gabriel C. Job (Educational Foundations), Dr. Bala Waziri (Human Kinetics), Dr. Hakeem Olaniyi Liadi (Arts and Social Sciences Education), Dr. Ailakhu Ugonna Vivian (Library and Information Science), and Professor Ayodele (Education).
Also present were Professor Sonnie J. Oniye of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Chief Clerical Officer, Miss Oyintarela Abarugu.
