The director, Ikom Community Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Edwin Bassey, along with his management team, has initiated an internal dissertation defence for postgraduate students of his centre.

The exercise, which passed as the first of its kind among the 103 study centres of NOUN across the country, was held on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 and members of the assessing panel were seasoned veteran academics drawn from top grade universities in the zone.

Bassey, in his welcome address, explained that he introduced the internal defence exercise to panel-beat the research works of Master degree candidates of his centre in order to prepare them for a seamless and foolproof final defence in Uyo, next week.

On the panel of assessors were Dr. Eni Iferi Eni, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar; Dr. Paul Obi Aja, Faculty of Social Sciences, Havilla University, Nde-Ikom, Cross River State;

Dr. Sylvester Ushie, Faculty of Management Sciences, Cross River State University; and Dr. Godian Patrick Okenjom, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar.

It is a common practice in many conventional universities for graduating candidates to defend their research projects internally before they get recommended to external assessors for final defence.

The event at Ikom Community Study Centre, Ikom, Cross River State witnessed 15 Master degree candidates from the seven faculties of the university defending their dissertations.
