The accreditation team of the National Universities Commission (NUC), on Monday, November 25, 2024, visited the Jos Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), to conduct the exercise.
The accreditation exercise centred on two courses at the centre: B.Sc Accounting and B.Sc Banking and Finance.
Leader of the NUC accreditation team, Prof. Babatunde Yusuf, said the purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the two programmes in the Faculty of Management Sciences.
This, according to him, was to ensure compliance and promote continuous improvement.
"The exercise is also aimed at assessing the quality and effectiveness of the two courses in line with the standards set by the NUC.
"This process, which is critical for maintaining the university's credibility, is conducted to ensure programme quality and foster institutional improvement," Prof. Yusuf said.
The NUC delegation, led by their leader had reviewed documents containing the check list, which was made available to them by academic staff of the department with support from the centre staff.
Other members of the NUC team were: Prof. Walter Ndubuisi, Ibrahim Magaji Barde, Prof. Samuel S. Ogunbiyi, Prof. Sadeeq A. Abba, Dr. Julia O.Eichie, Mr. Bright Osemeke, and Mr. Daniel Oyetunji.
Jos Study Centre Director, Mr. Bulama Samson Mshelia, Prof. Johnson Okoh, and other academic staff from the faculty welcomed the NUC visiting team and took them on a tour of the facilities for assessment.
The overall exercise was conducted without any hitch.
