
The nomination for the 3rd edition of the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences has opened for Nigerian universities staff.
This was contained in a mail sent to all Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian universities by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), dated July 10, 2025.7.16
The communication carried the title: Call Circular on UNESCO-Rusia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences, was signed by Abubakar Tanko Mohammed, Ag. Head, Special Duties Division at the Executive Secretary’s Office.
“I am directed by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission to inform Vice-Chancellors of Universities to disseminate the notice from the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM-UNESCO) on a Call for Nomination for the 3rd Edition of the UNESCO-Russia Mendeleev International Prize in the Basic Sciences, to be circulated in your universities.
“The prize aims to recognize and reward each year’s major achievements in the development, dissemination and international cooperation in the field of Basic Sciences.
“Prizes to be awarded to two (2) winners consist(s) of a monetary reward of $250,000, a gold medal and a diploma for each of the two winners,” the circular stated.
According to the communication, deadline for submissions is July 11, 2025, as all submissions can be done via https://www.unesco.org/en/prizes/mendeleev/nominations-process.
Detailed information on the prize is also available on the same site, it added.
