The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) has taken over the affairs of the association and announced plans to conduct elections into its National Executive Committee (NEC).

In a letter dated October 9, 2026, and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma O. Uduma, through the Director, Alumni and Endowment, the Board said the decision followed the suspension of the electoral process earlier scheduled for October 10 and the suspension of the activities of the NEC by the University Management.

The letter, signed by the BoT Chairman, Muntaka Abdul-Hadi Dabo, said the Board acted in line with Article 6.2 (viii) of the NOUNAA Constitution, which empowers it to manage the association for a maximum of three months where the NEC is unable to discharge its constitutional responsibilities and to convene a congress to elect new executives within that period.

The Board stated that its interim intervention was not intended to obstruct the ongoing inquiry instituted by the University Management into the affairs of the association.

It also requested that all official correspondence from the University to the association be channelled through its Chairman pending the emergence of a new elected NEC.

The BoT proposed November 30, 2026, as deadline for the conduct of the election, adding that it was ready to collaborate with Management to ensure a peaceful, credible and constitutionally compliant process.
