NOUN announces passing of two staff members

The Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has announced the death of two of its staff. 

The announcement disclosed that the two deceased staff were Prof. Ojonigu Friday Ati of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Sciences and Mrs. Bilikisu Victor Yiwa, a Principal Assistant Registrar from Jos Study Centre, who died after an illness.

The two separate notifications dated April 28, 2025, and signed by the university's registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, however, did not state the dates of their passing.

While explaining on the death of Prof. Ati, Mr. Ajayi said the late staff has "joined the services of the university on 1st February, 2025, on transfer of service from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

"During his time with us, he distinguished himself through his dedication to scholarship, academic excellence, and service to the university community.

"He was a valued member of staff, admired for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to the development of his field."

On the late Mrs. Yilwa, the registrar described her as a "distinguished administrator who served the university with dedication, professionalism, and outstanding commitment.

"Her invaluable contributions to the operations of Jos Study Centre and the university at large will be remembered with deep appreciation."

He therefore offered the Vice-Chancellor's, management and staff of the university condolences to the families of the deceased, while praying the Almighty grants them the strength to bear loss.
