NOUN issues certificates to 27 inmate graduates in Lagos

The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Femi Peters, on Thursday, July 13, 2023 issued certificates of the 12th Convocation Ceremony to the inmate graduates at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos State.

Represented by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Mr. Adekunle Okhogbe, alongside representatives from the Mushin Study Centre, top-ranking officers of the correctional centre, families and well wishers, certificates were issued to the 27 graduates.

"I bring warm greetings from the National Open University of Nigeria, particularly of the Vice-Chancellor who has sent me here to represent him on this auspicious occasion, I'm indeed very glad to see the sea of heads of our friends who are yearning to have quality and functional educations and I'm seriously amazed at the increased number of graduates this year," the VC ‘s representative said.

He thanked the Controller-General, Halliru Danbaba and the management of the maximum security custodial centre in Lagos for their warm reception during the graduation every year.

Peters further encouraged other inmates to follow their colleagues in taking the educational step, build on it and acquire success.

On his part, the Danbaba, represented by the Deputy Comptroller of  Corrections, Sikiru Olawale Balogun, congratulated the graduates on the completion of their formal education, acknowledging that this year’s ceremony had recorded the highest number of inmate graduates.

A retired DCC, Dr. Oluseye Oduntan, while speaking at the ceremony, advised the inmates to focus on their positive dreams and the area of their specialisation without hindrances.
