Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has gave a green light for the publication of the university’s Service Compact (SERVICOM) Charter.
SERVICOM representative of the Presidency, Mrs. Kikelomo Ania, disclosed this during the second-quarter training on the implementation, review and monitoring of the service charter held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at NOUN headquarters in Abuja.
Ania explained that a charter “is a dynamic document where there are changes that take place, some things are merged and every charter is subject to review. You must implement the policies stated in the charter so you must look at the implementation and then how to monitor.
”The review, implementation and monitoring is an ongoing process especially the online version of the charter.”
According to her, “What a charter does is to guide experience. There are different steps to a charter which is to develop, implement, monitor and to improve. It has been recognised all over that good governance is essential for suitable development both economic and social.
“The importance of a good governance cannot be over emphasised and the bedrock of every good governance is a service charter.”
The representative of the Presidency added that a charter is a public document that sets out basic information on the services provided, stressing that it is a standard of service that consumers can expect from an organisation and how to make complaints on suggestions for improvement.
To this end, Ania stated, every faculty should have a charter. “From this charter we will get an integrated charter because not all information in the local charter should go out to the public.”
She described the VC as “a SERVICOM Champion,” even as she expressed her appreciation to him and the NOUN management for the support toward the SERVICOM Unit and the SERVICOM initiatives.
On her part, the newly Nodal SERVICOM Officer in the university, Mrs. Foluke Adeniran, stated that the SERVICOM representative of the Presidency and herself had paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, over the review of NOUN’s Service Charter.
Adeniran said SERVICOM has been able to work timely and render swift response to student issues in collaboration with the NOUN Information & Call Centre desk officers, which generated positive feedback.
She further disclosed that they had carried out the monitoring and inspection of facilities within the university as well as study centres.
However, the Nodal Officer explained that SERVICOM is not all about individual service delivery but a collective service delivery. “If NOUN wins, it means we all win.”
Adeniran appreciated the VC and the management for the support granted and further applauded SERVICOM representatives for their input to the development of the unit.
