The Management of Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is perfecting plans to transfer its graduating students to the Port Harcourt Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) every semester beginning from January 2024.

This arrangement was brokered by the Director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, Dr. Nnenna Nancy Chukwuma, on Friday, October 20, 2023 when she sat in conference with the provost of the college, Prof.Franklin Nlerum, in his office.

Chukwuma, who acknowledged that the arrangement was facilitated by Mr. Stanley Mboi, the Head of Department, Dental Science, who is also a Master degree student in the Department of Public Health, National Open University of Nigeria, Port Harcourt centre, stated that the collaboration was symbiotically beneficial to both organisations.

This arrangement is of great importance to me because it would afford the students an opportunity to seamlessly move as a group to us to continue their studies instead of moving aimlessly about seeking what next to do after their graduation from your institution here,” she added.

On his part, Nlerum, who welcomed the NOUN delegation with warmth and glee, expressed delight in conferring with them, saying that the college is a National Diploma awarding institution.

Describing the deliberations at the meeting as fruitful, the provost requested Chukwuma to expedite action in raising an official memo for onward transmission to the management of the college for formal ratification of the collaboration to ensure that the scheme sets sailing by the time the new semester commences at NOUN in January 2024.

It is interesting to understand that by this arrangement, about 100 graduating students of the Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology would be migrating to enroll at the Port Harcourt Study Centre of NOUN every semester for a degree programme in Public Health.

With Chukwuma in the NOUN team were Joel Nkanta, Regional Media Officer, South-south, Mary Bassey, Senior Assistant Registrar, Port Harcourt Study Centre and Madu Odeigah, Assistant Registrar and Desk Officer, Faculty of Health Sciences, Port Hacourt Study Centre.
