The Nigerian Red Cross Society has assessed the emergency preparedness of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Gombe Study Centre as part of efforts aimed at strengthening community service relations and improving health and safety standards within the institution.
The assessment was carried out during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Gombe Branch, Mr. Murtala Aji Aliyu, who was received by the Centre Director, Dr. Adamu Bappah.
During the visit, Mr. Aliyu inspected the arrangement of health appliances and medical equipment at the centre to ascertain its readiness to respond effectively to emergencies, particularly during examination periods when students may experience stress-related health challenges.
The Red Cross official commended the management of the study centre for prioritising the safety and well-being of students and staff through proactive health measures.
Mr. Aliyu had earlier served as a facilitator during a first-aid training programme organised for staff members serving on committees under the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP).
Speaking during the visit, the Director of the study centre, Dr. Bappah, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its continued support and commitment to community health service.
He also noted that Mr. Aliyu is a student of the institution, currently pursuing a 400-level degree in Public Health at NOUN, describing his dedication to humanitarian service as commendable.
Dr. Bappah further reaffirmed the study centre’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for students and staff.
