The newly established Students’ Consultative Forum (SCF) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has inaugurated its executive members at the Uyo Study Centre, Akwa Ibom State.
The elected leaders are Miss Akpan Abasiama Kingsley, Chairperson; Mr. Ukpabio Archibong, Vice-Chairman; Miss Imo Udo Ndem, Secretary-General; Mr. Effiong Asukwo Okon, Financial Secretary; and Mr. Dominic John Usungurua, Treasurer.
The executives were inaugurated virtually on Tuesday, August 29, during a ceremony held at the University Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the University Management, the establishment of the forum was aimed at strengthening student representation and enhancing communication between the university and its student body.
The virtual inauguration was organised through the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs, to provide a structured platform through which students can communicate their concerns, suggestions and constructive feedback to the appropriate authorities.
The newly inaugurated executives are expected to represent the collective interests and concerns of students at the Uyo Study Centre, irrespective of their faculty, department, programme or level of study.
They will also serve as a channel of communication between students and relevant university authorities, while promoting mutual understanding, constructive engagement and effective communication.
The management of the Uyo Study Centre has consequently called on students to support and cooperate with the new executives as they discharge their responsibilities.
Students were also encouraged to use the forum constructively by channeling relevant concerns, suggestions and feedback through the appropriate avenues.
The Director of the centre, Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan, alongside the University Management, urged the executives to carry out their responsibilities with the fear of God, dedication, integrity, fairness and accountability.
They were further charged to demonstrate responsible leadership and uphold the interests of the entire student body without discrimination.
Dr. Aletan urged the executives to approach their responsibilities with maturity and objectivity, describing the forum as an important platform for fostering productive engagement between students and the University Management.
The centre management congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and wished them a successful and impactful tenure in the service of the students and the university community.
