The Abeokuta Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has conducted a matriculation ceremony for 14 newly admitted inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Services in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The matriculation ceremony, which was held on April 14, 2022 at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara had in attendance representatives from NOUN, the Correctional Services, and other inmates to witness the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, represented by the Abeokuta Study Centre Director, Dr. Olusegun Adeleke Oba-Adenuga, welcomed the new students into the university.
The director advised the inmates on their academic pursuit, saying that "Take very seriously the life-changing opportunities that the government through the Nigerian Correctional Services and NOUN have brought to you, gain the time, while serving the term."
Oba-Adenuga also appreciated the management of the Nigerian Correctional Services through the Deputy Controller, Ogun State Command, Mr. Bamidele Oshin, for the invaluable academic opportunity given to the inmates.
The University Registrar, Mr. Felix I. Edoka, represented by Mr. Ayokunle M. Ola, the Principal Assistant Registrar, Abeokuta Study Centre, administered the matriculation oath to the participating students that were present after which the matriculation ceremony was declared closed.
Also at the ceremony was the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who was ably represented by the State Director of Mass Literacy, Alhaji Mikali Lawal, and the Senior officers of Borstal institute for the juvenile.
