In continuation of its advocacy drive and determination to boost students enrolment, Yenagoa Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Wednesday March 9, 2022, embarked on a tour of the Yenagoa Local Government Council headquarters in the state capital.
The advocacy train, which was led by the centre director, Prof. Clifford Moses Amini, berthed at the office of the director, Administration and General Services of the council, Mr. Ibetei Woyengibuomo.
Amini briefed Woyengibuomo on the purpose of the visit. "We are here to create awareness about the presence of NOUN in Yenagoa."
Woyengibuomo, who accorded the NOUN team a warm reception, proceeded to assemble the council staff at the main auditorium of the council, where Amini mounted an enlightenment campaign.
The centre director took time to explain to the council staff the advantages of embracing the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of instructional delivery as championed by the NOUN.
He harped on the flexibility of learning at the university which has made the institution a toast of admission seekers as it bridges the gap in university education among the married and unmarried, young and old, as well as workers and the self-employed.
The director added that NOUN's mode of operation did not in any way impede their daily work obligations.
Amini's presentation provoked a lot of questions which were intelligently answered to the satisfaction of the audience.
Woyingibuomo expressed delight at the visit of the advocacy team and urged his staff to take advantage of the flexible and accessible nature of NOUN and key-in to the different academic programmes available, while commending the federal government and the management of the university for taking education to the doorsteps of all interested Nigerians.
