The chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro, alongside other BoT members on Friday, August 6, 2021, inspected the secretariat donated to the association by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The body, whose main vision is to provide professional platform for synergic relationships and focused on sustainable peace and development in Africa, will now have its national secretariat at the NOUN headquarters in Abuja, while the training centre remains at its erstwhile secretariat, University of Ibadan.

Bogoro, who is the Executive Secretary, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund), said SPSP will ever be grateful to the National Open University of Nigeria and the immediate-past VC, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, for providing the complete infrastructure for the secretariat.

“VC, I have been told about how you have consolidated from where Prof. Abdalla started. We want to thank you and we are confident that more will come from your own end to ensure that this centre continues to grow to expand and consolidate” he said.

The TETFund boss, who took time off to narrate how the NOUN headquarters building took only 11 months under the first-leg of his TETFund stewardship, underlined the importance of having their national office in NOUN, which has the largest number of Peace Studies students in the country.

Bogoro later presented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters with a letter of fellowship nomination on behalf of the SPSP, which is the highest honor, stressing that it was in recognition of the great role NOUN has played and the person of the VC.

The association also sought for the permission through the Department of Ppeace and Conflict Resolution to collaborate with the university to host the upcoming conference slated to hold in November this year.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, while responding, appreciated the presence of the Chairman and the BoT members of SPSP to NOUN, especially Emeritus Prof. Godwin Sogolo, for his supportive role in terms of ideas and suggestions.

Peters equally appreciated Prof. Bogoro for the great role he played in seeing the university’s relocation to its present location and the drive into the vision to move NOUN from Lagos to Abuja within the shortest time possible.

“NOUN will ever be grateful for that,” Peters said.

While turning to the association, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the vision of Prof. Isaac Olawole Albert in floating the SPSP, saying that “we will assist you to drive your vision.

He said NOUN, in partnership with the body, will assist to drive the vision, because peace and conflict resolution programme is one of the six flagship programmes of the university, which receive a lot of attention.

The VC, who said their requests have “totally granted,” thanked them for his nomination as fellow of the association.

The team later went round the new secretariat adorned with state-of-the-art facilities.
