CEMGS : Tijani bows out amid commendations as Anetor takes over as new director

The outgoing director, Centre for Excellence in Migration and Global Studies (CEMGS), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Hakeem Ibikunle Tijani has formally handed over the affairs of the Directorate to Dr.Gloria Anetor as he proceeds on leave of absence.

While handing over CEMGS to his successor in his office at the University headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, Prof. Tijani said he will continue to work together with the staff of the Directorate while on leave of absence.

"Today, I will be proceeding on leave of absence to assume a position at Morgan State University as Executive Director of Global Partnership Africa in charge of academic matters and Dr. Anetor, who is an Associate Professor has been appointed to serve as the next director of CEMGS," he said.

Prof Tijani, while commending his staff for their tremendous and unreserved support towards taking the Directorate to an enviable height said, "I'm not leaving anybody behind. We are still living together; we are in a virtual world and is borderless. I'm a 'missionary' and my mission is global education and partnerships."

Speaking on his landmark achievements as a director of CEMGS, Tijani said he was not alone, adding that his belief in principle of inclusion really helped in achieving a lot.

According to Tijani, the Directorate which is a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) project, has been able to create global visibility, productions of academic journals (volumes one and two), organized seminars,  peer reviews, quarterly and annual reports, among other achievements.He added that working in NOUN's CEMGS has been a learning moment for him.

"When you stopped learning you become stupid and foolish. I am a professor-specific,  I am a teacher-specific, I am not professor-general. So we learn from one another. I'm not a perfect person, " he said

While commending Prof. Tijani for his all-inclusive leadership style, Dr. Anetor wished him well in his future endeavours.

Meanwhile, Dr.Anetor is an Associate Professor,Faculty of Education,Department of Kinetics.
