FRSC seeks establishment of mini facility in NOUN

As part of its effort to enhance free-flow of traffic along Idu-Airport road axis of Abuja, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has requested for a space at the premises of NOUN headquarters where it will establish a mini office facility for its officers.

This appeal was made by the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of FCT and Niger State, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonas Agwu when he led a 4-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Femi Peters at the university headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, which was the first official courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor since his assumption of office on 11th February 2021, also opened the frontier of a further relationship between the university and the corps.

According to the Assistant Corps Marshal, the purpose of the visit was to partner with NOUN “and discuss the possibility of having a facility in the university no matter how mini it would be, to ease traffic congestion within the axis.

“We are aware of the relationship between NOUN and FRSC; we are also aware of the uniqueness of NOUN and that is why we deemed it important to request for a mini facility, which will benefit FRSC, NOUN and the host community within the axis.’’

Agwu added that FRSC is looking forward to strengthening of partnership with the university for the staff in getting additional qualification alongside their official duties.

The Vice-Chancellor, in his response, welcomed the delegation and commended them for deeming it fit to establish such a facility in NOUN, and assured them that the university will definitely look into their request.

Prof. Peters acknowledged the growing traffic along the axis, which is a pointer to the need of the Road Safety Corps around the area to ease congestion.

 The VC also used the opportunity to call for a partnership that will lead to the establishment of a special study centre for FRSC, as it is with most para-military agencies in the country.

“Your trip is welcomed and we hope you will assist us in the partnership of establishment of a special study centre as it’s done in other para-military agencies,” he added.

The DVCs academic and administration, Professors Uduma O. Uduma and Justus Sokefun, Registrar, Mr. Felix Edoka, Bursar, Mr. Ernest Odeigha and other directors were all in attendance at the VC’s maiden official public event.
