Labour ministry visits Kaduna Study Centre

A high-powered delegation from the Federal Ministry of Labour, and Employment led by its controller, Mr. M. A. Yusuf has paid an official visit to the NOUN Kaduna Study Centre.

According to the controller, Mr. M A. Yusuf the visit focused on the major statutory function of the Ministry of Labour and safety administration in the country.

Also speaking, Mr Yusuf highlighted some areas of concern which were substantially discussed among which are condition of employment, Productivity, Employment Creation, Joint Consultation between management and union, Labour contractors and safety, health and welfare.

The controller appreciated the mode of reception and hospitality displayed by the Kaduna Study Centre on them.

He explained that the issue of Labour in every organisation is highly sensitive to both employer and employees.

He said the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is a body charged with the responsibility of regulating Labour and its conditions.

He apologized for not being able to make it for the earlier scheduled meeting last year which he described  as a result of other demanding official engagements.

The meeting further extended its discussion on Labour Administration and infrastructure in each state of the federation.

Furthermore issues related to organisational  operations, strength and employability, conditions of service and advice on Labour issues were substantially discussed.

Moreover, factors that encourage efficiency such as Health and Safety in the work place, security, communication flow industrial relation were vividly discussed.

In his response, the Kaduna Study Centre Director, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi expressed his delight to recieve a team of such high caliber in his office.

Mr. Abdullahi first explained the trends in the evolution on establishment of the National Open University of Nigeria.

Like any other university in the country and beyond National Open University of Nigeria was established to for the purpose of teaching, Research and Community development, said Abdullahi.

He therefore explained that the university Base on its nature is anchored on three basic phylosophy Affordability, Accessibility and Flexibility.

He expalined that the condition of service and and staff welfare in the institution is paramount and consistent.

NOUN is being consistent in the equipping staff offices for. efficiency.

On the issue of unionism, he reiterated that the act established the university  did not give for such move, therefore thete is no existence of unionism due to  the uniqueness of the university.

Speaking on organisational communications, he clearly spelt out that there is effect and efficient communication flow in both vertical and horizontal corridors.

In relation to partnership he explained that the university has since in partners with other institutions for supervision, practical and host of other academic activities.

He thanked the team for recognizing NOUN  as an institution to be giving priority.

The team also held a similar visit to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, National Board for Nomadic Education, National Teachers Institute.

The team is expected to take the visit to all other Federal Government Parastatal, organisation and institution cut a cross the state.
