In an effort to reposition the centre to an enviable state, the management of the Special Study Centre for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Garki, Abuja, have met with the management team of the union.

The NOUN team led by the Acting Director, Dr.. Paul Ifeanyi and the Coordinator for Special Study Centres, Mrs. Modupe Adesina, met with the NURTW officials in their office on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

During the meeting, Adesina presented a  position paper from the university's management, stipulating the areas and levels of involvement of the union in the provision of some amenities to the centre.

She said that hosts of the special study centres were expected to provide 100 percent of the physical infrastructure and amenities for the centres to stand firm and function well.

The coordinator reminded the officials that there was a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both parties at the inception of the centre which outlined those provisions.

According to her, those provisions were not limited to only NURTW centre alone but to other special study centres of the university.

On their part, the Acting President of the union, Alhaji Issa Ore, after welcoming the NOUN team, promised to table the position paper before his executive committee for further discussion and deliberation.

He also agreed that there has been a good relationship between the union and the centre, and assured that his team will respond without delay, even as he promised to get back to them on all the areas discussed.

On his part, the centre director, while appreciating them for the provision of a Sienna Car at the inception of the centre in 2013, informed them that the vehicle has since gone too old and can hardly stand repairs.

As such, he appealed to them to equally consider the replacement of the worn-out vehicle.
