NOUN's centre director bags award

The Director of Makurdi Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Fidel Onefeju Okopi, has been bestowed with a distinguished award.

The award was conferred on him by the Ahmadu Bello Advocacy for Good governance and leadership centre, Abuja,on Thursday 28th October 2021 in Makurdi, the Benue State capital for his meritorious  service to humanity, peace advocacy, job creation and upliftment of educational standard in Benue Dtate and Nigeria at large.

According to information made available to NOUN News by Prof. Okpoi, the award ceremony took place on Thursday 28th October 2021 in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The award was aimed at promoting and recognise act of good governance and motivate individuals who have demonstrated good leadership skills in the discharge of their responsibilities in  organisation.

Presenting the certificate of honour, the leader of the team, Comrade Edward Usambe, said the organisation was moved by the quality managerial acumen being exhibited by Prof. Okopi since becoming the study centre director of NOUN Makurdi.

‘’Prof. Okopi has brought decorum and sense of belonging to bear in the ivory tower through his peoples oriented governance by carrying his staff and students along in the scheme of things and need to be given recognition for his selfless service to humanity’’, he added.

In his response, the recipient while thanking the organisation for finding him worthy for the honour, said, "I am not a member and this took me by surprise’’.

‘’I lack words to appreciate the organisation for finding me worthy for the honour, i did not know that the little effort I am putting in NOUN Makurdi will be appreciated by an outside body."

The director further promised sustain his open door policy, which he said, has helped in no small way in carrying his staff and students along.

" As a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, I have used the skills acquired to bear on the job as the issue of examination malpractice in the institution has been reduced to the barest minimum since assumption of office," he said.

Meanwhile, the award received by Prof. Okopi was bestowed on him based on the recommendation from the forum of Independent Media Practitioners of Nigeria.
