The advocacy team of the Oka-Akoko Community Study Centre on, Sunday, May 14, 2023, took its sensitisation campaign to two prominent churches as well as other importances places in Oka-Akoko environs.
The first point of call was the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Ayo, Owolagba in Oka, where the team was received and given enough time to inform the large congregation of the opportunities in NOUN.
The Director, Dr. Joseph Babajide Oyadeyi, who led the team, said Oka-Akoko people should count themselves advantageous to have the study centre in their community.
He informed them that NOUN is a federal university that offers different programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Oyadeyi added that NOUN is flexible, accessible, and affordable for all who want to add value to themselves, listing the various faculties and programmes available at the university with the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC ).
The director added that Higher National Diploma holders now have the privilege to be admitted into the 300 level, and advised parents to send their children to NOUN.
He also explained that NOUN is unique as students can study at any place, in their pace.
Questions from the congregation were well attended to and concluded by thanking the pastor of the Church, Past. Dr. Fesojaye Adedeji and the leadership of the church for the grace to address the church.
The Pastor appreciated the NOUN team for the visit.
At St John's Anglican Church, Oka, the congregation was elated to have the team in their midst, as the Archdeacon of the Church, Venerable J. O. Idowu, was appreciated by the visiting for the opportunity.
Equally, the centre also visited Oke Agbe in Akoko North-west Local Government Area and Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-west Local Government Area, recently.
At Oke Agbe, the team visited the Ajana of Afa's palace where the NOUN team was warmly received by the Regend, HRH Ajayi, who incidentally was an annex-student of NOUN, the Oba-in-Council, and community leaders.
In her remarks, the Regend thanked the team for enlightening her people, even as she signified her intention to enroll in a master's degree programme at the study centre.
The team also took the sensitisation exercise to the Palace of Ewi of Aje-Oke Agbe, HRM Oba Oloruntoba Bello who was highly elated about the advocacy visit.
The youth leader in the town, Mr Joseph Ariyo also appreciated the NOUN team for the visit and promised to ensure that youth in the community are well informed about the university.
Other places visited in the local government area were the Comprehensive Health Centre, Rufus Giwa Memorial General Hospital, Divisional Police Headquarters, and the Akoko North-west Local Government Secretariat.
It was the turn of Oba-Akokoa a few days later when the team visited the Palace of HRM, Oba Nurudeen Adeniyi Adegoroye, the Oloba of Oba, as the traditional ruler, his chiefs, community and youth leaders were on hand to receive the team.
The director appreciated the Oba and his people for the importance they attached to the visit.
In his reaction, the youth leader, Mr. Stephen Adeyemi, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and his management team for bringing university education closer to their locality and thanked the director and staff of the centre for the orientation.
The team then took the advocacy to the staff of St. Peter's Anglican Primary School, St. Peter's Church and Oludaye Grammar School in the town.
The advocacy team comprised the director, Dr. Jide Oyadeyi, Mrs. Queenfaith Adebo, Mrs.F. Aribigbola, Mr. Pius Akintola, Mr. Seun Adeyemi, Mr. Suleiman Jimoh, Miss Bunmi Adeoye and Mr. Gilbert Jayeola.
