Prof. Jegede receives AAU’s highest honour in Namibia

Former Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 received the prestigious award of the Association of African Universities (AAU), tagged: "AAU Higher Ambassador for Open and Distance Learning."

The award was part of events marking the 22nd Conference of Rectors, Vice-Chancellors and Presidents of African Universities (COREVIP 2023), taking place in Windhoek, Namibia.

According to Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole, the AAU’s Secretary-General, Jegede was singled out in recognition of his contributions towards advancing excellence in African Higher Education.

"The AAU takes immense pride in acknowledging and honouring your exceptional support and your unwavering dedication to the advancement of Higher Education in Africa.

"Your passion serves as an inspiration to the entire Africa academic and beyond. AAU is proud to appoint you as the Higher Education Ambassador for Open and Distance Learning,” Oyewole said.

The Secretary-General added that "AAU extends its deepest gratitude to you for your exemplary leadership which serves as an extraordinary source of inspiration not only to African academic community but the individuals far beyond our borders.

"We stand proud of your remarkable achievement in fostering a vibrant and transformative higher education sector."

The association also commended award recipient for citing and building the headquarters of the AAU in Ghana. 

Olugbemiro Jegede served in various capacities in different parts of the world including Australia, Hong Kong, Ghana and Nigeria.
