The Managing Director, Confluence Cable Network, Grace FM (95.5) Lokoja, Kogi State, Mr. Simbabi Ogbeha has agreed to accept the National Open University of Nigeria’s (NOUN) Mass Communication students from the Lokoja Study Centre for their Students Industrial Work Experience (SIWES).
Ogbeha stated this during an advocacy visit led by the Director, Lokoja Study Centre, Dr. Godwin Alhassan to his office in Lokoja on the 18th of October, 2021.
The station manager’s nod followed the request of the study centre director, who solicited the cooperation of the organisation to avail the university’s Mass Communication students the opportunity of having practicum and SIWES attachment in the radio station.
According to Ogbeha “Education is the key to eradicate poverty to a bearable minimum in the country. We promise to accept Mass Communication students of NOUN, Lokoja Study Centre to come for SIWES when the need arises.”
While welcoming the NOUN delegation to his office, the MD also stated that the visit was the first of its kind and appreciated the team for deeming it fit to visit Confluence Cable Network, adding that he will encourage his staff to enrol in NOUN.
“We wish to partner with NOUN to promote education in Kogi state,’’ he added.
Earlier in his address, the study centre director intimated the MD on the operations of NOUN, its Act and mandate of providing quality higher education to Nigerians and non-Nigerians through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) as the major mode of teaching and learning.
According to Alhassan, as the foremost ODL institution in the West Africa sub-region, NOUN is not a part time study institution, neither a correspondence learning centre but rather an ODL institution.
While appreciating the MD for his audience at a very short notice, Alhassan also thanked his host for good services his organisation has been rendering to the good people of Kogi State.
He further thanked him for acceding to the request of availing the Mass Communication students of the centre the opportunity to carry out their practicum and SIWES attachment in his organisation.
