The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) has hosted its Second Digital Education Day in collaboration with the International Trade Facilitation Association (ITFA), drawing key stakeholders from across the education and technology sectors.
The vibrant discussions at the event centred on the theme: “Leveraging Technology for Inclusive Education.”
The event was held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.
The Digital Education Day is an annual event and a flagship platform for ACETEL—one that unites policy makers, educators, technologists, development partners, researchers, and students to reflect on the transformative power of digital learning.
This year’s celebration underscored the urgent need for educational systems to be innovative, inclusive, accessible, and equitable.

In his welcome address, NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, highlighted the strategic importance of the event, which he described as a call to action for all stakeholders to ensure that technology continues to dismantle barriers of distance, disability, and disadvantage, opening new doors for learners who have historically been left behind.
“Technology has emerged as a critical enabler in bridging gaps in access, equity, and quality of education. At NOUN, we’ve seen firsthand how digital learning redefines the boundaries of opportunity, providing access to education that is not limited by location or circumstance,” he said.
While delivering her welcome remarks, the Director, ACETEL, Prof. Grace Jokthan, reflected on the progress made since the inaugural edition of the Digital Education Day held in 2024, with the theme: “Revitalising Learning: Digital Education through Video Integration.”
Last year’s event, she said, was organised in collaboration with WACREN (West and Central African Research and Education Network).

“This second edition goes beyond celebration; it is a reaffirmation of our mission—to not only drive innovation in education, but to ensure that innovation reaches everyone.
“Today’s event reaffirms ACETEL’s pledge to harness technology in a way that is inclusive, people-centred and transformational,” the director added.
The event featured an engaging lineup of sessions, keynote presentations, and panel discussions with contributions from notable personalities, including Sophie Lai of the Taiwan Computer Association, who delivered the keynote address.
Participants explored critical topics such as emerging technologies in education, accessibility design, digital literacy, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in equitable content delivery.
