The Faculty of Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has commenced the 2023_1 laboratory practical in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science for students of the university across the country.
The exercise, which forms part of the requirements for graduation in the institution, is scheduled to hold between May 2 to May 20, 2023, holding simultaneously in all the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
Bauchi and Yola Study Centres have been designated to host all the science students of the North-east region for the exercise.
The Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Kolawole Lawal monitored the commencement of the exercise at the of Bauchi Study Centre, where he was flanked by the director of the centre, Hauwa Dede.
In Yola, the centre director, Mrs. Tiling Marling Yelyel, while welcoming the students, charged the technologists to give the students the best training by going through the syllabus and ensuring that all the participants master the needed skills.
She also advised the students to use this great opportunity to develop themselves, stressing that their participation would be marked as part of their assessment and their daily attendance would be crucial.

NOUN News gathered that the laboratory practical, which is an integral part of the science courses, tests students and grades them on hands-on practical aspect of their respective courses, constituting 15% of the TMA.
The practical sessions have been slated to hold between Mondays to Saturdays, from 9.00am to 6.00pm in three daily sessions, while the 3rd session accommodates working-class students who would need to be at work in the morning.
Students dress in a white-sleeve laboratory coat, even as practical manuals have been provided to record observations and their respective reports.
