
The Director, Port Harcourt Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Theresa Ucheoma Ettu, has charged the newly appointed outsourced security operatives at the centre to be courteous and polite in their relationship with students of the university.
Ettu, who gave the charge in her inaugural meeting with the new appointees on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 said that the reason the security personnel were appointed was that “Without the students, there would be no need to appoint you into this job.
“The Vice-Chancellor and that management of this university place premium on excellent service delivery to and treatment of our students because they are the reason we all are here.”
The centre director reminded the new recruits that not even a piece of paper is permitted to be taken away from any of the offices or the premises of the study centre without due approval of the management.
She explained that no security personnel is allowed to meddle with the examination processes of the university, let alone getting involved in examinations misconduct.
Ettu added that Port Harcourt Study Centre has been dedicated to God, therefore no one is expected to bring in any form of talisman, charms and amulets in the name of securing the centre.
Responding on behalf of the outsourced security personnel, Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel E. Bassey (rtd), expressed his gratitude to the centre director for the warm reception accorded them.
He promised that he and his colleagues will discharge their duties with utmost professionalism while upholding sublime ethical principles to ensure that the security of lives and property at the centre is taken to the next level.
