The Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has organised a one-day in-house training for its staff on the use of Official Email and Zoom Communication Platforms via laptobs and smartphones.
The training, which was held at the centre's auditorium, was geared towards equipping the staff with 21st-Century workplace tools to boost staff capacity and efficiency, according to the Director of CHRD, Professor Aminu Umar.
Umar, who was represented by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Jonathan Dyeri, also stated that the training on these key areas was vital in the day-to-day operations of the centre and the university at large.
He explained that “as the system continues to navigate the digital age, it's essential that we leverage these tools to enhance productivity, collaboration, and communication.”
The director clarified that official email remains a crucial means of communication in the university, and it is essential that staff use email effectively by being clear, concise, and professional in their messages.
He urged the staff to ensure that they use their official email addresses for all work-related correspondence.
Speaking on zoom, the director maintained that this platform has revolutionised the way virtual meetings are conducted and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.
He said that to use zoom effectively, the staff need to familiarise themselves with its features and best practices.
Umar added that by using zoom effectively, the centre and the university can reduce the need for physical meetings, increase productivity, and improve work-life balance.
He informed the staff that mastering the use of official email and zoom communication platform is crucial for staff’s success in today's digital workplace.
As such, the director encouraged all the staff to take advantage of these tools and to continue learning and improving their skills, and appealed to them to work together to enhance their communication, collaboration, and productivity.
The training, which involved practical sessions, had two technical sessions conducted by Mr. Abdullahi D. Muhammad and Mr. Kabir Muhammad, both of the Information and Communication Unit of the centre.
