CHRD visits Kaduna Teachers Service Board, proposes partnership

The Chairman, Kaduna State Teachers Service Board, Mr. Adamu Makadi, has said that stakeholders’ planned collaboration can greatly record the much-needed educational development in the state.

He said the menace of out-of-school children can be curtailed through the ongoing effort that is about to come up between his agency and the Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD), National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The chairman made this statement at a meeting with the management of the CHRD during a courtesy visit to the board in Kaduna.

Teachers are key and therefore need to be strengthened and improved on their supervision through information and communication technology, which we hope to key in to. 

“We hope to improve on the efficiency especially of the board and management staff, despite the substantial part of them having adequate knowledge of computer. 

Human resource is a very critical aspect and no matter how trained a teacher was, he needs to be trained and retrained with the current reality,” Makadi said

He promised to see how the board can coordinate with other departments for proper presentation. 

Moreover, he added, the board would see how it can partner with the centre “on the area of promotion examination for the teachers because that was one of the areas we think the board is having challenges. 

On the issue of recruitment process, the chairman also agreed to partner with the NOUN CHRD, even as he the centre for the visit.  

Earlier in his presentation, the CHRD director, Dr. Aminu Umar appreciated the board for the rapid response and agreed to meet the CHRD team. 

While dropping the warm felicitation of the NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, Umar explained that NOUN is a unique university with more than 400 thousand students. 

The director said the university has a rubust presence in Kaduna, Kagoro, NAF Base and at the Medium Custodial Centre, Kaduna.  

He explained that CHRD is the centre saddled with the responsibility of providing cooperate social responsibility for the university. 

In partnership with the Kaduna State Government, the centre has trained more than 600 Artisans in various specialities in entrepreneurship and artisans skills,” he said

The director informed the board that the centre has organised a special training for human resource management. 

He, therefore, called on the chairman of the board to exploit the university on the area of ICT for promotion examinations and recruitment. 

Modalities are on ground to key-in to and partner with Kaduna Polytechnic to train them in formal and non-formal education to out-of-school children,” the director said

He upheld that CHRD can conveniently conduct NEED assessment, competency test, among others.
