A member of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Gloria O. Aneto, has observed that Port Harcourt Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is a big Centre with a potential to get bigger and greater if properly equipped to enhance the comfort of students whenever they come around for activities such as the ongoing examinations.
Prof. Aneto voiced this observation during her exams monitoring tour of the Centre on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in her chat with the NOUN News on the sidelines of her exams monitoring activities.
The Professor of Health Sciences, who was warmly received by the Centre Director, Dr. Theresa U. Ettu, said she was very impressed with the manner in which the management of the Centre, led by Ettu, handles exams administration at the Centre.
“The Director was here on time. I didn’t have to begin to ask 'Where is the director?' The staff were at their scheduled places of assignment. Everything went on properly as planned, but the lack of adequate computer systems was the draw back,” Aneto said, adding that if there should have been batching at all, that ought to have happened only with the first session of the exams which was a GST examination.
She added, the fact that the batching continued with other courses is an indication that the computer systems at the Centre are grossly inadequate. “This inadequacy is a major drawback hindering the comfort of students in an examination such as this,” she said.
She also observed that the edifice serving as the administrative block of Port Harcourt Study Centre is imposing and would have been a great site to behold when properly renovated.
“When I saw the state of the roof, I was imagining what this Centre had to go through during the just concluded Pen-on-Paper (PoP) exams which took place in the heart of rainy season. Although the Centre Director said she has drawn the attention of management to the state of the building, it is possible for management to have forgotten about such memo in the midst of a sea of requests made to management from different centres across the country. Therefore, I will make some recommendations in my report (as a way of reminding management about this). Port Harcourt Study Centre really needs a facelift,” Aneto concluded.
