The  Director of African Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL), Prof. Grace Jokthan,  has called on students of the Centre to initiate ideas in cyber security to solve real life problems.

Prof. Jokthan made this call  at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) while playing host to a two-man delegation, representing the entire students studying Cyber Security at the centre.

Speaking during the visit, the team lead, Mr Ajiboye Mayowa, expressed delight over the flexibility of the programme, saying it makes learning  easy, unlike the conventional universities which requires a face-to-face contact.

Ajiboye, who is the current course representative, added that the Open and Distant Learning (ODL) system adopted for the programme has made learners free from the constraint of time and space considering the flexibility if offers.

‘‘Cyber Security is a professional course, and the centre gives the best lecturers across the country,’’ he said.

Ajiboye appealed to facilitators in the programme to increase the timing of their virtual sessions to enhance students learning capacity.

He explained that his journey as the course representative has been interesting and challenging as he is faced with the responsibility of supporting his colleagues by ensuring  identified problems are appropriately resolved.

Also speaking, a student of the centre, Olusegun Dare, appreciated NOUN’s ACETEL for organising and putting in place a robust system for the programme, even as he emphasized on the impressive quality of the course content.

He, however, listed  some of the challenges being encountered by some students in the programme to include internet constraints, network instability which interrupts virtual sessions, among others.

‘‘Any student studying in NOUN’s ACETEL must be prepared to work twice as hard, considering the strict nature of the system,’’ he said.
