The Director, Calabar Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Calabar, Cross River State, Prof. Onyeka Iwuchukwu, has said that the mode of study in the West Africa’s premier Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university is “do it yourself.”

Iwuchukwu made the assertion in her address to students of her centre during the students’ forum which the management of Calabar Study Centre organised on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

She informed them of the following facts about the university: students do not pay for course materials, course materials come in two formats: Soft and printed copies (If you are not given printed copies, you download soft copies); minimum penalty for exams malpractice is suspension for two semesters, and culprits have to travel to face exams misconduct panel, adding that students should be warned.

Other operational facts highlighted by Iwuchukwu were, students must be accurately documented by their faculty officers as they submit their final research projects; online facilitation is not yet available in all courses; and study at NOUN is done in a do-it-yourself mode.

Officers, who also took turns to address the students, were Mr. Matthew Akpan, Principal Assistant Registrar, Mr. Sydney Ibe, Accountant, and Mr. Ben Onabe, System Analyst.

The session was very interactive as a deluge of questions, which were all adequately addressed by the director and her officers, were asked by the students.
