The Director, Special Study Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Controller of Correctional Francis Enobore (Rtd), has urged the student inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja, to be steadfast and resilient in their studies.
The director, who paid an unscheduled visit to the centre during the ongoing 2024_2 e-examination, encouraged them to desire and hope for a second chance in life.
Enobore, who was at the centre to monitor the conduct of the examination, addressed the student inmates, and advised them to persevere on their studies as education is a powerful tool that can transform their lives.
Being in the custody, according to him, and “enrolled into NOUN, means you have already taken a bold step towards a better future.
"But education alone is not enough, while you are here, learn a skill, pick up a handwork like tailoring, carpentry, barbing, or any craft that will help you stand on your own when you leave this place.”

He explained to them that certificate will only open doors, but a skill will keep them standing when they are finally freed.
The director implored them not to return to crime when they complete their sentences, but should rather use their education and skills to build a new life for themselves and families.
“Society may judge you, but what matters is what you do with your second chance; show the world that you are more than your past," he said.
He encouraged them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement, as the journey ahead of them would not be easy but with determination and hope they can attain their desires.
