As part of his unscheduled visits to monitor the ongoing examinations, assess facilities, and review staff conduct, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma vhas isited the Awka Study Centre in Anambra State.
While in Awka, Prof. Uduma decried what he observed as non-compliance with student identification requirements.
He observed that “a number of students were not wearing their official NOUN identity cards during the examination.”
The VC noted that adherence to this rule is essential for institutional security and examination integrity.
Prof. Uduma also flagged inadequate spacing in the examination seating arrangements. According to the VC, the arrangement was “congested and did not provide sufficient spacing between candidates—necessary for strengthening examination integrity and minimizing distractions.”
The NOUN VC later took a tour of facilities at the centre where he inspected the e-Examination facility as Mr. Jackson Segun Ogundairo, the ICT officer, informed the VC that the facility's network infrastructure had become obsolete and that several network cables had been damaged by termites and rodents.
He identified the urgent procurement of network switches and replacements of network cables as immediate solutions.
The ICT officer also briefed the VC on the need to consider utilising resident ICT experts during the conduct of e-Examinations.
According to him "personnel deployed from the headquarters to administer e-Examinations may not always be familiar with the peculiar limitations and configuration of the centre's network system."
Mr. Ogundairo suggested that resident ICT officers have the full knowledge of the students and the local network architecture and as such in good stead to support the administration of e-Examinations at the centre.
Earlier, the Awka Centre Director, Dr. Vivian Ugoala, had presented to the VC with the examination protocol and duty roster showing relevant staff including students counsellor are all assigned responsibilities for the exercise.
