The Director, Uyo Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Uduak Irene Aletan, has charged students of her centre to familiarise themselves with the operational procedures of the West Africa's premier Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university and make effective use of the support services available to them throughout their academic journey.
Aletan gave the charge at the 2026_2 Student Forum/Examination Briefing/Orientation Exercise, organised by the centre to sensitise learners and furnish them with essential information on the university's academic, administrative and examination procedures.
The programme, held on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, brought together newly admitted and returning students of the centre.
The Centre Director, who chaired the programme, welcomed the students and provided an overview of the university's flexible learning system, academic structures, administrative procedures and student-support services.
Representatives of various university offices and units, including the Vice-Chancellor's representative, Directorate of Learner Support Services (DLSS), Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Registry, Bursary, Counselling Unit, Stores and Library, made presentations at the forum.
Similarly, desk officers for Developmental Studies (DES), faculties, Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), alongside the South-South Incubation Coordinator, also sensitised students on the functions and services of their respective offices.
On examination procedures, which formed a major area of focus during the programme, Aletan explained key examination procedures, including the appropriate use of the university's customised answer booklets, and reiterated NOUN's zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice.
She urged students to study and comply strictly with the university's examination rules and regulations and to uphold discipline and integrity throughout the examination period.
The newly inaugurated Executive Members of the NOUN Student Consultative Forum (NSCF), Uyo Study Centre, were also formally introduced to students.
The forum's Chairperson, Miss Akpan Abasiama Kingsley, called on students to embrace unity, mutual respect, constructive engagement and responsible participation in student activities.
The forum provided an avenue for direct interaction among students, Centre Management, university representatives, Faculty Desk Officers and student leaders, strengthening students' understanding of the university's academic and administrative processes.
The Uyo Study Centre Management expressed appreciation to all participating university officials, staff, student leaders and all 220 students in attendance for their contributions to the success of the programme.
