The Director of the Asaba Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Henrietta Ijeoma Kelle, has disclosed that flooding during heavy rain has been a major problem for the centre.
To address this, she said, constructing proper drainages and walkways would improve accessibility and make it easier for staff and students to move around the centre.
Dr. Kelle made the remarks when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, paid an unscheduled visit to monitor the ongoing pen-on-paper exams and assess facilities at the centre.
The director added that several operational and infrastructural needs require urgent attention.
“The pen-on-paper examination hall needs re-ceiling to fix the decaying condition and create a better learning environment for students.
“Additional chairs are also needed to ensure adequate seating capacity during exams. Right now, the operational vehicle is down and requires repairs to get it running again," she said.
Dr. Kelle also appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to install safety nets across all windows of the administrative block to prevent reptiles and other harmful creatures from entering.
In his response, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma, acknowledged the request and questioned why the centre’s e-examination facility was being used for pen-on-paper exams.
He also inspected the script submission process, the server room, and the printing room where examination question papers are produced and stored.
The VC concluded with a visit to the newly-established TETFund-supported First Aid/Medical Centre.
