The Director, Iyara Community Study Centre, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Josephine S. Aina has taken the advocacy campaign of the centre to Ijumu Local Government Area Council of Kogi State.
During the campaign, the director, alongside her team, visited the area council chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna in his office.
The aim of the visit, the director said, was to bring to the fore the opportunities offered by the university.
She enjoined the staff of the council to explore the opportunities NOUN has brought to their doorsteps by enrolling to develop themselves educationally through the Iyara centre.
While putting forth her request to the chairman, she noted the state of the electric transformer at the centre, which was vandalised, and, therefore, affected the availability of power supply.
As a result, she said, the centre solely relies on generator for power supply, making the running cost very expensive going by the current economic situation of the country.
The chairman, in his remarks, promised to encourage members of his staff to leverage on the opportunities presented and enrol into the university.
Haruna promised to sponsor some of his staff as a form of encouragement, since most of them are not financially buoyant, so as to assist in paying for their education.
On the issue of transformer, the chairman also assured them that a delegation would to be sent to check and assess the issue and get back to them.
Like wise, the advocacy team proceeded to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), secretariat during their Community Development Service (CDS), day to also encourage them to utilise their service year to enrol and further their education.
Consequently, officials and some of the corps members expressed delight and immediately showed interest to get enrolled.
