The Bauchi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has appealed to the Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to establish a special study centre within its premises to support its rehabilitation and anti-drug abuse initiatives.

The request was made when the Director of NOUN Bauchi Study Centre, Dr. Madu Galadima, led a delegation on an advocacy visit to the NDLEA command headquarters in Bauchi.

According to the Commandant, Mr. Ali Aminu, establishing a study centre within the agency would help strengthen NDLEA’s campaign against substance abuse by promoting education and awareness among rehabilitated drug users.

He noted that education is a critical tool in changing attitudes and preventing relapse among drug offenders.

The commandant commended the NOUN team for the enlightenment visit and pledged to encourage officers and personnel of the agency to further their education through the institution’s Open and Distance Learning (ODL) platform.

He also expressed personal interest in enrolling for a PhD programme, adding that other officers had indicated readiness to register for various academic programmes.

In his remarks ealiar, Dr. Galadima said the visit was part of NOUN’s ongoing advocacy to sensitise security agencies about its academic programmes and strengthen institutional partnerships.

He explained that the university operates over 100 study centres nationwide, offering more than 1,000 courses across different disciplines through a flexible ODL system designed to accommodate working professionals.

Galadima further highlighted that NOUN conducts two types of examinations—Pen-on-Paper (POP) and Computer-Based Tests (CBT)—held twice yearly, and provides both online and printed study materials to enhance learning outcomes.

He urged NDLEA officers to take advantage of the university’s accessible and flexible learning model to upgrade their qualifications.

The visit ended with an interactive session where the NOUN team briefed NDLEA personnel on admission procedures, registration processes, course options, fees, and other operational details of the university.
