The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Christian Fellowship has organised a five-day Vacation Bible School for children of staff members and residents of surrounding communities, using the programme to teach them about Jesus Christ, Christian values and the importance of living lives guided by faith.
The programme, organised in partnership with the Child Evangelism Fellowship, brought together children from NOUN staff families and neighbouring communities for Bible study, music, drama and other activities designed to make learning engaging, practical and memorable.
The organisers said the initiative was conceived against the backdrop of the growing moral and social challenges confronting children and young people, including violence, cultism and other social vices.
They noted that early moral and spiritual guidance was essential in helping children develop the right values and make responsible choices as they grow.
According to the organisers, the Vacation Bible School was built around the Christian message of salvation and the need to guide children towards a better understanding of Jesus Christ and His teachings.
They explained that the 2026 edition, with its focus on Shining the Light of Jesus, was designed to help children understand the person of Jesus Christ, His teachings and the importance of allowing Christian values to shape their daily lives.
For five days, the participants were taken through lessons and activities aimed at strengthening their understanding of the Christian faith in a friendly and practical learning environment.
Beyond Bible study, the children participated in music, drama and other creative activities, which provided opportunities for self-expression while making the learning process more enjoyable.
The organisers said the activities were deliberately designed to help the children better understand and retain the lessons taught throughout the programme.
The programme was open not only to children of NOUN staff but also to children from settlements and communities surrounding the university, as well as families connected to nearby institutions.
The initiative was organised by the NOUN Christian Fellowship in collaboration with the Child Evangelism Fellowship, both interdenominational Christian organisations committed to sharing the Gospel and promoting Christian values among children.
The NOUN Christian Fellowship is headed by Pastor Fatale, while Professor Iyabode Nwabueze chaired the committee responsible for the programme. The Child Evangelism Fellowship is headed by Mrs Helen Uchebe.
