
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Air Commodore Umar Muhammad Awe (rtd) has paid an official visit to Kano, Fagge and Dawakin Kudu Study Centres, Kano State.
The Acting Director, Kano Study Centre, Mr. Muddasir Ahmad Ishaq, confirmed to NOUN News that the visit was for assessment and familiarisation.
Awe, who was accompanied by Toyin Lawali, an Administrative Officer and Blessing Akor, a Security Officer during the visit on Monday, February 10, 2025, were received at the Kano Centre by the Acting Director.
The CSO had an interaction with the Centre’s security personnel, during which the security chief encouraged the officers to put more effort in securing the study centre as well as its facilities.
He urged them to always display an act of professionalism in their day-to-day activities.
The CSO, however, cautioned them that any lapses that result in the loss of the centre’s properties will not be condoned by the university.
At the end, the CSO gave an open floor for the security staff at the centre to ask questions for more clarifications on the matters raised.
He promised the director that in view of the shortage of security personnel at the centre, additional personnel will be posted there to complement the already existing security personnel.
To round up his official engagement, the CSO went round the centre and inspected the facilities available on ground.
While welcoming the CSO earlier, the Acting Kano Study Centre Director, Mr. Mudassir Ishaq, commended CSO for the visit and further said that the visit will serve as an encouragement and motivation to the security personnel and other staffers since security is everybody's concern.
He added that the management of the centre is working hand-in-hand with the security unit to ensure safety of the centre and its facilities.
Ishaq applauded the university management under the leadership of the VC, Prof. Olufemi Peters, for giving priority to security so as to enhance and maintain safety of the university’s facilities and staff.
The CSO then proceeded to Dawakin Kudu and Fagge Community Study Centres, respectively.
He also had an interaction with the directors of the two study centres, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Alhassan and Mr.Ibrahim Shehu and security personnel of the centres on security issues.
